Firewall administration
Posted on November 29th, 2009 No commentsOriginal post from: GeniusHackers.com
FirewallIn my previous two articles I showed you how to secure your LAN and WLAN. In that i had mentioned the firewall factor. In this article I am going to show you the uses of firewall and its administration. Firewall Administration is ensuring the proper management, configuration, and change management of it.It is comprised of controlling access to the platform, platform operating system builds, log reviews, time synchronization and backups.Hence firewall is very important in a network. Some of the advantages and uses of firewall are as follows.
- The main and the most important factor of firewall is your computer security. It gives a sence of a secure connection of your computer.
- The most inexpensive and security tool.
- You can monitor incoming and outgoing security alerts and the firewall company will record and track down an intrusion attempt depending on the severity.
- Some firewalls are also useful as they detect viruses and worms.
- All firewalls can be tested for effectiveness by using products that test for leaks or probe for open ports.
What is firewall administration ?
Personal firewall software is designed to prevent connections between the network and your computer, except for programs that the firewall software knows that they are not infected.
- Network Magic needs to make network connections to set up sharing and check for updates, your firewall software needs to allow these connections.
- Network Magic is permitted to make outbound communications.
- Inbound communication from other computers running Network Magic is permitted to get past the firewall to Network Magic.
- Outgoing communication: Most software firewalls have settings for specific program control.
As we say that any coin has two opposite sides firewall also consists of some of the disadvantages like:
- Firewalls cannot protect you from internal sabotage within a network or from allowing other users access to your PC.
- Firewalls cannot edit indecent material like pornography, violence, drugs and bad language. This would require you to adjust your browser security options or purchase special software to monitor your childcare’s Internet activity.

How to use 4GB RAM on 32-bit XP/Vista by enabling PAE
Posted on October 4th, 2009 1 commentOriginal Article from http://etricks.in/2009/09/how-to-use-4gb-ram-on-32-bit-xpvista-by-enabling-pae.html
As advised in the comments below, this way seems to have been patched, I cannot confirm this as I haven’t tried it/don’t need to. 64-bit is out there. -Thomas
Recently one of my friend bought
2 GB RAM for his PC. He already had 2GB installed and he added more 2GB to his . But his XP showed only 2GBs. This is very common problem. By default Windows XP supports only 2GB of RAM on 32-bit systems. It is fact that 64-bit systems can support 4 GB of RAM .But very few people know that even 32-bit systems can support up to 4GB of RAM.This can be done by enabling the PAE(Physical Address Extension) on your PC.Now a days almost all processors support PAE.How to enable PAE on XP:
To enable PAE in
Windows XP you have to edit the boot.ini file. Open boot.ini file. It will be there in your system drive. Suppose your OS is installed in C drive then go to run and type c:\boot.ini and hit enter.Add “/ PAE” at the end of the file.It would look something like this:
multi (0) disk (0) rdisk (1) partition (1) \ WINDOWS = “Microsoft
Windows XP Professional” / noexecute = OptIn / fastdetect / PAEDon’t change anything else in boot.ini or your PC will not boot.Just add / PAE at the end of the line.
Now restart your PC and check if your computer is showing 4 GB RAM. To do this right click on My computer and select properties.Click on general tab and see if it is showing 4GB or not. If it shows then it means that you have done everything correctly and you can use complete 4Gb of your RAM.
Enable PAE under Vista:
It is very easy to enable PAE under Vista. Open cmd and type
BCDEdit / set PAE forceenable
Now it should show 4GB of RAM in Vista.
Warning:Use PAE only if you really have 4GB of RAM or your PC may not work properly. Or if you have got some extra money I will recommend you to go for 64-bit system.

How To Install Leopard Onto Your PC in Just One Step!
Posted on August 12th, 2009 No commentsOriginal Article From http://tiny.cc/cwj6o
Here is a complete guide to install Mac OSX Leopard 10.5.1 (9B18) on your PC, in just one step that is as easy as it could possibly get. Just pop in the DVD and you are good to go, running Leopard in no time, with all the 300+ features at your fingertips.
I am writing this guide for a novice user, who doesn’t know much about the various commands This is a one step process that almost anybody in this world would be able to follow.
Here are the basic requirements for you to proceed with the installation of Leopard :
- A Blank DVD-R to burn the ISO.
- The ISO image to be downloaded from Mininova.
Before I tell you, how to install OSX I would like to tell you why this release by Uphuck and Eskurza is an important milestone in the OSX86 Project.
- This is the first ever Leopard DVD to come out with the amazing PC-EFI built in. If you are wondering what PC-EFI is all about, then let me tell you something about it :
With the EFI patch, the hackintosh can boot off VANILLA UNMODIFIED OS X kernel and use vanilla kexts, which gives a more clean room and great peace of mind for future system updates.
To Know more about PC-EFI visit the OSX86 Wiki
- iATKOS (as this release is called) supports a variety of Hardware configurations, and many popular Graphic Cards, Network Cards are supported.
Now lets proceed with the installation of Leopard. Before that here are few conditions your CPU must satisfy to use this installation method..
- Non Core Intel Processors, no PC-EFI for you.
- Core Based Processors, for PC-EFI to work.
- AMD processors are not supported at this time.
Ok now, lets proceed with the installation :
Step 1: Installing Leopard
- Download the Installation ISO from Mininova. You can find it by performing a search for iATKOS v1.0i (Its about 2.09 GB).
- Once you are done, with downloading burn the ISO at very slow speeds to the DVD.
- Pop in the DVD and boot into it from BIOS and follow the Onscreen Instructions.
- Select the Appropriate Packages, based on your hardware and then proceed.
- Installation might take about an hour or so, so grab yourself a cup of coffee while you install Leopard.
Step 2: That is all , my Friend
- Didn’t I say it was a one step installation process. Yes it really was.. Congratulations you’ve done it.
That’s it for now. If you have any questions, please drop in a comment, or ask your questions in the Uphuck Forums.
A big thanks to Uphuck and Eskurza for this amazing release. A lot of credit for all this hardwork goes to them. And ofcourse to Netkas for the development of PC-EFI. Cheers!

How To Copy a DVD with VLC 1.0
Posted on August 4th, 2009 1 commentOriginal Article From http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/2686/how-to-copy-a-dvd-with-vlc-1.0/
VLC 1.0 has gotten several cool new features, one of which is the ability to record what is playing in the screen. Here we will take a look at how easy it is to record a DVD or other video formats using VLC.
Want to rip the DVD instead of recording? We’ve got a guide for that as well.
Record Using VLC
You won’t see the record button in the default view so we need to make it available in the control panel by going to View and selecting Advanced Controls.

Now you can see the Record button along with a couple other handy controls like snapshot and looping.

Now when you start up a DVD or other video simply click on the record button and hit is a second time to end the recording.

While it is recording notice that the record button will be blue.

The recorded video is in MPEG format and stored them in the Documents folder labeled as VLC Record with the date and time.

This is a great way to save entire movies or specific scenes you want to watch later on your hard drive.

Of course VLC won’t burn the recorded MPEG file to DVD but you can certainly use other programs for that. This is a much different process than “ripping” and you will need to play the video while it records.
