  • Apple and you.

Posted on February 4th, 2010 Thomas No comments

Yesterday Apple released the 3.1.3 update for iPods and iPhones.

DO NOT UPDATE IF YOU WANT YOUR UNLOCK.

iPhone 3G/3Gs users who don’t care about their unlock can go ahead right now and update and keep their JB using redsn0w from the dev team.

iPod Touch 1G/old2G can update using redsn0w and still have a JB.

iPod new2G/3G DO NOT update. Period. The iPhone Dev Team is working on the new tool, wait for them to give you the go ahead.

iPhone Unlockers (3G and 3Gs) Don’t update, there is a new baseband update, you WILL lose your jailbreak and MAY NOT be able to unlock your phones for a while :(

Check with the dev-team, I will be: http://blog.iphone-dev.org

GeoHot doesn’t seem to be doing much now, he might.

  • Tom Tom GPS – New Zealand – App Review

Posted on January 12th, 2010 Tane 3 comments

Recently I added to Tom Tom GPS (New Zealand Edition) application to my iPhone and I thought that I would write a small review on the application and show our readers what its like to use.

Some of the things I found really handy were that:

    • The app’s Points of Interest (POI as described in applications) was great, giving the ability for the user to see either on the map, or within the menu allowing you to not only find the nearest motel, hotel, petrol station, supermarket or pharmacy but also it has an option (A green icon to the right) allowing you to call them with easy access. It also allows you to quickly change your route.
    • The maps are all bundelled into the application meaning that you don’t use any mobile broadband usage.
    • TomTom has a range of iPhone vent mounts that allow you to mount the iPhone onto your dashboard, apparently this has been quite controversial in regards to New Zealand’s new “No cellphone use while driving law” as it does sometimes require you to press a few buttons.
    • The app is easy to use, although at times it didn’t have exact locations of where I wanted to go as long as I knew what road/Street/ect that the location was on it seemed to be ok.

A few things I didn’t like about the application as a whole:

    • Someones it seems to put me off going to the right and off the road having to recalculate the location again, which even though it only took a few seconds sometimes was annoying when coming up to intersections.
    • It didn’t always have the road/street I was looking for in the search option. But yet the road would appear on the GPS when I was there.
    • I don’t know if this is a carrier fault, or how the GPS runs but even when I was in full reception I would have gaps where I had “No GPS reception” yet the Maps app on my iPhone could pick up my location fine.

Overall the App is worth the $99 (I think thats what it’s worth) and I would well recommend it over a normal GPS as its ultra portable,  definatley worth the money that you pay for it, you have no need to buy more equipment and cables to add to your car while driving and also with the avaliblity of the mounts for iPhone it is by far the best option for a portable on the go navigational system.

    Hey Guys!

RightyHo! We want to SSH to our iPhone/iPods (this is an explorer type view of your iDevice)

NOTE: This includes system files and shit you shouldnt mess around with.

    img class=aligncenter size-full wp-image-414 title=Picture src=http://ageniusblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/Picture.png alt=Picture width=320 height=480 /

So first we need the ingrediants:
JailBroken iPhone/iPod Touch (if you need help read a href=http://ageniusblog.com/2009/08/how-to-jailbreak-an-iphone-unlock-included-and-ipod-touchThis/a)

    A PC

    an iPhone/iPod Cable

    Okay, so here we go:
    ol
    liFirst we download a href=http://www.winSCP.net target=_blankWinSCP/a on our computers/li
liGo into Cydia and search for OpenSSH or download SBsettings/li
liOn your iDevice enable SSH (open SBsettings and toggle SSH)/li
    liOn your computer open WinSCP./li
liFill out this form: (Note: replace the host section with your iDevices wifi address. (find this out at: Settings, Wi-Fi, *Your WIFI connection*, IP Address)img class=aligncenter size-full wp-image-413 title=WinSCP src=http://ageniusblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/WinSCP1.JPG alt=WinSCP width=1024 height=768 //li
    liNOTE: The password is: alpine/li
    liAccept any pop-ups/li
    liConnect!/li
liThat is the SSH, now onto the other tut./li
    /ol
    strongQUICK ITUNES SYNC/strong

Download Installulous first (from the Hackulo.us cydia repo)
    ol
liOpen WinSCP and connect like above/li
    liGo to /User/Library/Downloads/li
liSimply Paste the IPS files into the download folder/li
liOpen Installulous and install the IPAs from the Download section like you would normally/li
    /ol
    img class=aligncenter size-full wp-image-415 title=Picture 001 src=http://ageniusblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/Picture-001.png alt=Picture 001 width=320 height=480 /

This eliminates the need to sync with iTunes.

NOTE: there is a new program called Installul0us this will change the downloads folder to /User instead.

  • How to install (and sync) cracked IPA files on Your iPhone/iPod

Posted on August 13th, 2009 admin 3 comments

So you downloaded an IPA file via appulo.us or somewhere else, and don’t know what to do with it?
or you have tried syncing it VIA iTunes, but it gives an error?
    I have the Solution!
In 5 easy steps, you will be able to Sync your cracked apps via iTunes!

    Step 1:
Note You will need an OS 3.0 Jailbroken Phone to do so, refer to This Post if you haven’t yet
    Open Cydia, and click Manage.

Click Sources, and then click “Edit” at the top-right hand side of the screen

    IMG_0012

    IMG_0013

Click “Add” at the top Left hand side of the Screen and type in “cydia.Hackulo.us”

    IMG_0014

Click “Next” and when Done, click Search (at the bottom right) and Type in “Appsync”

    IMG_0015

Click The Result and Click Install (at top right) mines “modify” because I have already installed it

When done, Close Cydia and Open iTunes.

    freeap

Install a Free app First from the iTunes store before syncing, I know that there has been problems with that if you didn’t
