  • Apple and you.

Posted on February 4th, 2010 Thomas No comments

Yesterday Apple released the 3.1.3 update for iPods and iPhones.

DO NOT UPDATE IF YOU WANT YOUR UNLOCK.

iPhone 3G/3Gs users who don’t care about their unlock can go ahead right now and update and keep their JB using redsn0w from the dev team.

iPod Touch 1G/old2G can update using redsn0w and still have a JB.

iPod new2G/3G DO NOT update. Period. The iPhone Dev Team is working on the new tool, wait for them to give you the go ahead.

iPhone Unlockers (3G and 3Gs) Don’t update, there is a new baseband update, you WILL lose your jailbreak and MAY NOT be able to unlock your phones for a while :(

Check with the dev-team, I will be: http://blog.iphone-dev.org

GeoHot doesn’t seem to be doing much now, he might.

  • Free 5 Minute International Calls using Skype

Posted on January 19th, 2010 Tane No comments

Ever wanted to make a quick international call just to say hi, sick of having to install weird Voip programs that also only let you call for 5 minutes? Well heres a quick tutorial to get 5 minutes free international calling using skype!

    • Firstly you need to update to the latest version of skype, if not you can easily download this from skype.com. Then sign into your skype account

    agb1

    • Down the bottom of your skype window you will see a small button down the bottom saying “Call Phones” Click this and the dial pad should appear on your screen, you need to click into the box and dial +118003733411 you do not need credit for this as Skype allows you to call USA free call numbers free via skype.
    • For a start once the number answers you will hear a few voice advertisments and then you will be put through to the main menu, It will ask to say a few things and you must say “Free Call” once it mentions it.\
    • Sometimes you will get put through to a message saying “Sorry all our free call lines are busy” but if you try a few times you should be able to get through. Once through you need to bring up the dialpad by pressing the Button with nine dots in the shape of a phone keypad up by the volume controls on your call window and enter the calling code and local number
    • Once you enter the number and press # your call will be connected and after 5 minutes you will be cut off, but I am sure you can just ring back and call again as many times as you want. At the moment I am unaware of any providers that charge for receiving these calls but I can not verify this as I have only called numbers within the USA.

  • Exclusive Video Of Pico Projector in a Samsung W9600

Posted on January 17th, 2010 Tane No comments

The above video has surfaced on youtube recently showing the use of a Pico Projector within a mobile phone, this projector can reach up to 1.5m wide in viewing projected from inside the mobile. Although this is only new you can see that hopefully with new technology coming in pocket sized gadgets such as phones there is so much potential for new and exciting gadgets

  • Kodak Zi6 Review

Posted on January 13th, 2010 Tane No comments

Although this gadget is quite old I thought I would give it a quick review just for AGeniusBlog

So at the moment you can buy these handy little HD camcorders for $159.95USD on the Kodak online store. The camera is quite handy although a tiny bit bulky it packs a lot of punch. It records on HD format 720p at 60 fps with 16:9 aspect ratio in MP4 format which allows you to import it into most movie editors (I personally used Camtasia for it) or use the bundled CD software to edit. It has some built in memory but memory is easily expandable with up to a 32GB SD card able to be added into it allowing it to store all your favourite memorys and change memory cards if you want to continue recording on the go.

The camera records in 3 different video functions being HD at 60 fps, HD at 30 fps, or VGA. Allowing you to change the quality and speed for specific needs. It also allows you to switch into Photo mode allowing you to take 3MP photos using the camera.

It is quite easy to use, is on in seconds after to sliding the power switch and your on your way.  Even though the files were a bit bulky because of the HD formatting it was well worth it with the camera outputting great quality videos, the only downside as other reviews have mentioned is this buzzy noise that you can hear quietly in videos for some reason and also that the camera is very shakey at times unless you are using a tripod.

I have had to oppourtunity to use both this camera and the Flip Mino HD. In comparasion I cannot see much difference between the video but prefer the Kodak Zi6 because of its larger screen and expandable memory. Although looking at the flips which are now coming in larger sizes then previous and are now available in New Zealand I may be speaking too early.

HD Camera users, whats your opinion?
